Learning Reflection : Deskriptive Text

 1. Theory

1. Social function, explaining what the text was created for, what it is for, and for whom.

2. Text structure, is a way of arranging a text.

3. The linguistic component is the structure of sentences.

"DESCRIPTION TEXT''

Description Text Definition

Descriptive text serves to explain something. Whether it's a person, object, event, or place. Descriptive text provides a detailed explanation so that the reader understands the object of information sought.

🖇️ Descriptive Text Structure

The following are two descriptive text structures.

• Identification (Introduction/classification)

Answers questions about what specific topic, person, idea, or thing is being described or explained and how it is being described or explained.

🖇️ Description (Distinctive features)

answers questions about what features or characteristics are important to remember or understand about the topic being described.

🖇️ Language in Descriptive Texts

In addition, there are some linguistic features in description texts.

🖇️ Specific participants

This can be something that is not common and is usually unique because it is the only one in the world.

🖇️ Adjectives used

It can be adjectives, adjective phrases, or / and adjective clauses.

🖇️ Use of simple present tense

Used in sentences that express activities or facts that happen in the present. This tense uses only one verb.

🖇️ Use of action verbs

Action verbs are verbs, such as run, think, or calm, that express something that a person, animal, thing, or process in nature does.

🖇️ Figurative language

Usually using a metaphor to provide an illustration to the reader.

2. Recommendations for Teachers

After understanding the basic theory about descriptive text, I would like to recommend some learning approaches to teachers:

- Modeling: Teachers can model the effective use of descriptive language through examples of good descriptive texts.

- Repeated Practice: Students need to be given opportunities to practice writing descriptive texts periodically.

- Formative Evaluation: Teachers need to provide regular formative assessment of students' progress in writing descriptive texts.
